The Ride that got Postponed…

Yesterday was actually rainy, not overcast like I thought it would be, but actually pissing down with rain when I went to go for my ride… So I did what any self-respecting decent lazy-arsed person would do when it’s wet and rainy… I crawled into bed for a lazy day of watching TV, reading, and listening to the rain. It was a nice relaxing way to waste an entire day.

Today I woke up with 2 things on the agenda, both were things that were meant to be done yesterday, but were postponed for the previously stated “Lazy Day in Bed”. The first was to explore Olympic park on my bike, and the second was to go and visit my folks and help them clear some space in the shed, I’ll shortly be on my way up to the folks place…

The bike ride was almost forgotten about.. but for a gentle indirect reminder from BossMonkey, which spurred me on to actually leaving the house. See when I get up every morning, I usually check my computer. Something to do with wanting to feel needed. And sitting there on my gmail page, was a Google Talk message from BossMonkey informing me that he was on his way out to Homebush Archery centre for a bit of a shoot. After a quick “Yikes” at the time of the message, and the current time, I caculated that if I hurried up and got over there, I might catch him and say Hi. Surprisingly without a cup of coffee in me, I also realised that if I threw my bike in the van, I could actually explore Olympic Park while I was out there. And so… Armed with a van load of bike, and a mission, I set off. Boss Monkey was there, and we chatted and he shot for a bit, then I headed off on my ride.

It was a nice ride that included things such as the MountainX Track, and all the stadiums. I stopped for a coffee and Muffin (Breakfast really), and continued on to the Brickpit. The Brickpit had been something that has been interesting me for a long time. There’s a lot of the Brickpit around Sydney, and it was amazing to be where alot of Sydney buildings started their life. I spent alot of time wandering around the Brickpit circle, reading the walls, looking at the remains. Maybe I’ll forever be a tourist, but I must admit I enjoyed the time spent looking at part of the history of Sydney.

I shall plan to do this ride again at some point, as only a small part of the park was explored. When I work stuff out with the GPS receiver and track-logging, then I might start keeping track of things more on here. Anyone is welcome to join me for future rides, having company would be really nice.

  1. I’d love to come along for a ride when I’m back in town, just need to get my hands on a bike… any leads?

  2. I’m sure we could rustle up one for you from somewhere.

My rides aren’t all that energetic, as it’s more of a mean of exploring an area. There’s a fair bit of stopping to take a peek at stuff, enjoy a coffee, enjoy the view… That sort of thing. :)
