Newcomers Tokens.

Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

After 10 castings, the mould for the Newcomers tokens that I have been working on for the last could of weeks split… right through the middle of the actual detailed part. This is a real annoying as there isn’t really enough time to carve a new mould.

There might be a chance that I can still use silicon to glue the mould together and continue casting… So off to the hardware store tomorrow to see if I can recover the mould.

  1. I’ve had some emergency success in gluing broken soapstone moulds together with industrial araldite/epoxy. You may have to do some re-carving of the excess araldite to get rid of any blebs squeezed out of the join.

  2. I have had the simpilar success with using industrial silicon. The advantage of silicon is that it can easily take the heat, though the disadvantage is that the bond probably isn’t quite as strong.

Thanks for advice though, I shall try it at some point. I’m guessing that either solution won’t late the 100-120 castings I need to make though.
