Duct tape fixes Everything….

I was casting tonight… And because I was a little too careless with getting to close to the size on the mould I was using, I managed to blow out the side trying to remove a casting… This wasn’t good, I had 5 castings to go for a commission job, and I wanted to deliver the job tomorrow night at Fighter Practice.

Duct Tape to the Rescue!

The small 2mm by 2mm piece wasn’t a huge chunk out of the mould, but if left out would allow molten pewter to flow straight out the mould. The duct take allowed me to hold the piece in place and pour the final 5 castings for the commission without the molten pewter leak. Surprisingly the tape held through all 5 pours, though it did get very squidgy towards the final pour.

Just goes to prove that duct tape can not only hold people to floors and ceilings, keep panels and lights securely fastened to trashed cars, seal broken windows, and work wonders with SCA Armour… Duct Tape can also be used in the Arts and Sciences of the SCA to hold crucial pieces in place allowing a job to be done. Yay for Duct Tape in the SCA!

Newcomers AS-XLII

I can be quite stupid sometimes… Pigheaded even… How have I shown this lately? Well… Despite the SCA causing issues with work (well… my involvement and interest in it), I have still managed to get myself the job of stewarding Newcomers this year. Yes, this is something that has been on the cards for ages, yet I have been strangely quiet about it in here… The reason? I’m well… not that confident that I can pull it off. At least not in the way I’m envisioning it.

The good thing is though… That I am actually planning it so that I myself will be doing very little actual work. I have appointed many coordinators to various tasks (yes, I still have a few gaps that need to be filled).  These people will organise their little sections of the feast, and I shall organise the feast as a whole…  Sounds sensible doesn’t it?  I just hope it works. ;)

As for my lack of confidence, maybe it’s just the fact that I have never done something like this before.  Maybe it’s that there is still so much I don’t actually know.  Or maybe it’s because it’s only 7 weeks away and there is still so much to organise.  All I can do is my best, and hope that people forgive my faults, and are understanding that I am new to Stewarding, and whilst I have a great team to help me, ultimately any failures will be from my lack of organisation and communication.

For now though, I would like to thank those that have been encouraging me so far…

Caterina – It’s her fault that I put in a bid, and she has helped, encouraged and well… mentored.
Tatya and Elyssant – The well organised team who will be looking after the kitchen.
Paddy – A highly hilarious hairsuite herald and a marvel of medieval merryment!
Megge – A mild mannered magnificent musician to manage much merry music.
Ailis – The Kings Dance Instructor, to direct daintily daunting dance.
Alfar – Our Baronial Champion and coordinator of the tourney.
Lijsbet – Coordinator of the Games and T-Tunic Collegia.
I would also like to thank Mistress Finn, and Adam the Renegade for all their help too.

I’m still looking for people to coordinate the Door, the High Table, the A&S Competition, Hall Decorations and Clean-up crew.  If you want to take ownership of a small part of of Newcomers please contact me and let me know what you are willing to do.

Oh…  And please Book early and help Tatya and Elyssant to cater enough for the evening.  It will make your night a much better night.

The subject of sales…

In an effort to turn my enjoyable but slowly becoming expensive hobby into one that hopefully pays for itself, I have started selling Rowan Tree Badges on Ebay.  These badges are designed as Rowany Populace Badges, however if you just happen to like Trees then you might like them too.
