The things you find…

It’s amasing what you find when you have loads of time to troll the internet for jobs and entertainment.  The Ledgend of Neil is a silly internet production that is quite entertaining if you don’t mind some crass references and swear words every now and then.

Check it out, and then abuse me later for making you watch it and getting you addicted to seeing what comes next. ;)

And the hunt for a new job finally starts.

Today the hunt for a new job has finally started, there’s been a fair bit of procrastination going on…  as well as plain old out right denial of the need to start looking right away.  I guess I was needing to relax a little bit so that the stress/tiredness of the previous job had some time to dissapate.  So I still haven’t really decided what I’m going to do, whether it be continue in the IT industry and try and get a Gov web-publishing job, or see what’s available in electronics…  The other alternative is to just see what comes up taking any job that comes along.  this can be good or it can be bad….   After all the first 9 months of my previous job were fantastic.

In more fun-er* news…  I discovered that my original blogger site for Bleep, Dots and Nonsense is still hosted at http://bleep-dots.blogspot.com/.  Which of course is well…  wrong..  obviously, so I had to write a post on it just to point people back to the real site here. ;)  I shall include the post below so that you needn’t follow the above link and look at all the old crap I wrote years ago (which is actually on here somewhere if you look for it).

What’s this still doing here?

If you are here… looking at this then you shouldn’t be… it’s wrong, wrong I tellz ya!!

You should be looking at http://syridian.id.au or… http://sveinn.id.au or even http://syridian.com… But here?

No.. no, you should not be here… here is the wrong place for you to be looking… close your eye’s, look away… go to one of the other sites… just don’t look here.

Here has been a desolate wasteland of blog posts for a long time, here is the past, passed over for a brighter sunnier place to be… here is just here.. and has been lurking left, forgotten and alone for many many months. Here has forgotten the sweet caress of digital textual pleasure, the warm flow of thoughts, desires and dreams cascading down the now dark and lifeless page.

Oh the humanity…

Here needs to be desperately put out of it’s misery and lonelyness… A swift single shot to the head, and here becomes just another part of the past, but no… here remains longer.. lingering in the disuse of tomorrow, a bleached white skeleton pointing the way to the future of Bleep, Dots and Nonsense…

Anyway..  Have fun, and I shall get back to the job hunting, saving you all from my insane writings, which as I now have more time available to me, might actually become more frequent.

* Yes I know it’s not a word, and if I was to use english properly there are a large number of better words I could use there…  but you know what…  i don’t wanna! ;)

Slight issue with syridian.id.au DNS fixed.

Due to my rushed attempts at getting everything all changed over last week I missed changing a couple of the records in my Domain Zone for syridian.id.au which means that for a few more hours that domain name is offline.  However you can still access the website through http://syridian.net or http://sveinn.id.au.

In other news, I have been looking into other ways of getting information into the Lochac.net forums so that it can be revived without the need for constant updating and trolling for information.  Keep an eye out. ;)

Getting back into Archery

I have been rather slack lately when it comes to a commitment to Archery.  It’s something that I enjoy, but I really need to get fanatical about it rather than just well….  Ho hum…  Part of what has made me not so sure about it is that my housemate who during the summer months is great at encouraging me, has a different sport that he spends his time on in Winter.  The other reason I’m not that into it is when it’s cold and wet out there, it’s just not fun.  I like the sunny warm days for throwing sticks at targets.

I’m hoping that getting a new bow will encourage me to shoot more, as my previous bow was rather ordinary.  Luckily there’s a Bowyer locally who is willing to make me a new bow…  Looking forward to trying it out when it’s finished.

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2009-08-14

Major changes to the behind the scenes website stuff.

I’m currently madly configuring everything to work together in a nice neat way rather than the quickly hacked together mess that it was in previously. For most of you you will never even see the changes, all of my current email addresses will continue to work, and the website will only change slightly.

From my end however, everything should work together, New articles added will automatically be linked to Facebook, and a tweet will also announce them. I am also playing with Calendar and contact synchronisation through Google Sync, which now allows both the Calendar and Contacts to be synced via ActiveSync straight to my phone. This beats the previous method I was attempting which was a paid for Exchange server. I still need to tweak a few things here and there, so if you get a bounce message when emailing me, feel free to SMS or comment here to let me know.

Oh, due to the work exchange server syncing all my contacts, and then when they turned that off last week, my phone had no contacts, I may not have the latest up to date contacts for you, so don’t be surprised if some of you get messages asking for your latest contact details. And feel free to email new ones through pre-emptively. ;)

Once all of this work on my sites is complete, I shall be auditing/editing a few of the articles to ensure they are correct, as I think my next career move might be towards web content publishing.

Finally checked out the whole Twitter thing…

Yes, I’m slow when it comes to using new web tools as I find that most of them are just a fad, but with the amount of tools and plugins available for twitter I thought I would finally give it a go. Surprizingly there was already someone using my usual online nic “Syridian” so I just had to modify the username slightly. :( Bugger, but then I guess that’s the problem with not jumping in and grabbing the name as soon as I knew about Twitter.

I have even worked out how to get Twitter to update my facebook status as well as being able to send tweets from my own website. With a few more tweaks I should be able to do everything without actually using Twitter. ;)

Radburne War III – A Tradition Set.

Just back from the 3rd Radburne War and I must say, the people of House Radburne have exceeded all expectations yet again. This little war started off as a a group wanting to increase the experiences of their fighters by encouraging fighters to come out to them, and it has fast become a great event on the Lochac Calendar and one worth the 6 hour drive for. Whilst technically the War is only a single day, the radburnites cram a lot of stuff in there as well as not over filling the time table.

Being such a small group of people, and most of the Radburnites being the one family, they have been able to achieve so much in the way of construction to the site, this year extending the fort, adding outpost archery towers, building a bridge as well as extending the tavern/hall to include a better servery and washing up facilities.

I heartily recommend Radburne War to anyone whether new to the SCA or old, this is a lovely little weekend away run by a group that is so friendly and helpful.

Unemployed again…

In a meeting to determine why my work call/ticket statistics were lower than the other staff this afternoon, my boss decided to ask me to come up with a reason why I should continue to to be employed with the company. I really couldn’t see a reason why I should continue to work there, so now I’m not.

I guess things would be better if I agreed that the changes to the company over the last 6 months were actually a good thing and just buckled down and worked harder to achieve the goals the boss required, however having been there when times good when expectations were realistic and then seeing the expectation for us to help in every way we can drop to “keep calls at an average of 5 minutes”. I’m also too easy to push around, the boss made it clear in the meeting that he wanted me to give him a reason that I should stay, and realisticlly other than me working my butt off and not getting the results he wants whilst the others are able to, I could see his point.

So, now I’m unemployed again, and now starts the job hunt. Ultimately I don’t wish to do Customer Service again as I have heard that most customer service jobs are all about punching through the numbers, rather than what the previous company were looking for which was “raving” customer service. I’ll work it out, but I just hope that I can find something to pay the bills in the meantime.
